Goals

“Never quit. It is the easiest cop-out in the world. Set a goal and don’t quit until you attain it. When you do attain it, set another goal, and don’t quit until you reach it. Never quit. ” – Coach Paul Bear Bryant

I’ve had goals my entire life. I always say “one day I’m going to do such and such”. The day never comes. I don’t do any work to accomplish these goals. Or, I will work on the goal for a short time and then give up on it. So, Coach Bryant, I’m going to listen to you. It’s time to start quitting and start working. Of course, my main goal in this life is to get to Heaven one day and take as many people possible with me. The apostle Paul, wrote:

” I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14

There are also the goals I have while living on this earth. Grow Spiritually & in wisdom – Write a book (I’ve been saying this one since I was a little girl) – do good at my job –  exercise & eat healthier – decorate the house on a budget – finish a quilt, etc. I’m blessed with a husband who encourages me to do all these things. He was the one who suggested I write this post – to give myself some accountability for accomplishing my goals. He knows how much I’ve always wanted to spend more time writing, and a couple of weeks ago he suggested I start focusing on that since it’s something I really want to do. At this point, I’m my only hinderance in accomplishing my goals. So, tomorrow is a brand new day. It’s time to get to work :)

What are your goals and how do you motivate yourself to accomplish them?

  1. I love this post, Beth. We’re Goal Twins! I have been thinking a lot about writing lately, too. What style of writing is your favorite?

  2. Yes, goals outlined for people to see does help get encouragement. :) I’ll be cheering for you! My current goal is to figure out what “spirituality” means (to me) and to earn money to live off of. Not necessarily in that order! Unfortunately earning money is not really a fun goal… If only I could be a kid forever. ;)

    • Thanks for the cheers and thanks for reading! If you ever want to talk about that spirituality thing, I’m here! Just send me an email. And yes, being a kid forever would make things not as complicated.

  3. I’ve been setting “goals” for years now, and they always seem to be the same goals! I recently discovered why: I read the book The Happiness Project (not promoting the book in any way, just giving credit) and the author Gretchen Rubin pointed out the difference between a goal and a resolution. A goal has a fixed end: you train for a marathon, and you complete it. Then you have to decide whether to keep training (and therefore set a new goal) or not. But “exercise every day” is not really a goal, it’s a resolution. (It can be a daily goal: have you done your exercise today?) But you don’t complete it and then it’s done. It’s an ongoing, lifestyle change. That made me feel so much better about my “goals” to realize many of them are actually resolutions!
