My first thought when I saw this recipe in a cookbook was there is no way that this would work. Bread made out of ice cream? Surely not! My curiosity got the best of me. I had to try it to see if it would work. First I did a quick google search and found recipes and posts about this unconventional treat. I still needed to see to believe. After 5 minutes of mixing, 40 minutes of baking, and 1 bite, I was a believer. It works! This made a slightly sweet and very interesting bread. It was definitely interesting in a good way. I used Bluebell Great Divide ice cream which is half chocolate, half vanilla because that’s what we had. I can imagine how good other flavors of ice cream would turn out as well. I love homemade bread, and a recipe for it that is this easy and successful still blows my mind. Life changing!
Ice Cream Bread
- 2 cups of any flavor ice cream
- 1 & 1/2 cups Self Rising Flour
Mix until flour is moistened. It won’t form a traditional dough. My advice is to get the flour as moist as possible. Place mixture in a greased and floured loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes.
This post is from my wonderful Mama.I had a couple of other recipes ready to share this week, but when mom made this last night I knew it would be a great recipe to start off an August Monday with. I asked her if she wanted to share the recipe and she sweetly agreed. We worked on the post last night. Thanks Mama! Love you muches – Beth
We had an ice cream fellowship after church tonight. Orange sherbet is one of my favorite ice cream maker recipes because it is easy and delicious. There is no cooking or even mixing involved! Beth was amazed when she asked me how I made it. To be so simple, it sure is good! I asked my “boy-in-law” Michael how I should describe it. He said “it tastes a little like fruit loops”. I haven’t thought of it that way, but I guess that’s a good thing because he and Beth completely finished off what was left after the fellowship.
- 1 – 2 liter bottle of Orange Crush
- 1 small can crushed pineapple
- 2 cans of sweetened condensed milk
- Dump everything into the bowl of your ice cream freezer.
- Follow the directions of how you normally make homemade ice cream. That’s it. The paddle does all the mixing for you. It takes about 25 minutes to freeze in a White Mountain ice cream maker.
I hope you try and love this as much as we do. Thanks, Beth’s Mama
